Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Austin Beutner’s austerity agenda is wreaking havoc on students, parents and teachers. It’s time to take to the streets to fight back. UTLA is leading the March for Public Education on Dec. 15 in downtown LA to call for investment in public education that would give students what they deserve: a quality education.
What’s the Issue? Beutner refuses to spend any of the $1.86 billion the district has in reserve to support students and teachers by lowering class sizes, providing more school counselors and nurses, giving educators fair pay and making schools safe. UTLA is standing up to Beutner and his millionaire buddies who are denying educators a fair contract and students a fair shot at the American Dream.
How can we help? The Dec. 15 March for Public Education is our chance to stand in solidarity with the brave educators fighting this battle for all of us. The labor movement must turn out in full force to send a message to LAUSD that the educators’ fight is OUR fight. You can download a march flyer here. And for more information, go to www.wearepublicschools.org
Let’s stand together to show LAUSD that the entire labor movement is going to fight shoulder-to-shoulder with educators to get a fair deal for teachers, students and the community!
