California Labor Federation Releases Primary Election Endorsements, Focuses on Expanding Pro-Worker Majorities

The California Labor Federation, representing 2.1 million union workers across the state, today announced June primary endorsements for statewide constitutional offices, the state Legislature and Congress, vowing to unleash a massive grassroots campaign this year in support of candidates at every level who share the values of working people.

“Workers across California are vigorously organizing for fair treatment on the job with an intensity we haven’t seen in decades,” said California Labor Federation Executive Secretary-Treasurer Art Pulaski. “Critical to the success of that organizing is electing candidates who will stand with working people and fight for an economy built on a foundation of equality and opportunity for all. California’s labor movement will be a major force in this year’s elections by doing what we do best – having millions of real conversations about what’s at stake at the door, at the worksite, on the phone and online.”

The convention kicks off California Labor’s statewide mobilization for 2022, in which tens of thousands of union volunteers will volunteer on nights and weekends in support of candidates at every level who have demonstrated support for social and economic justice. Coming off a huge grassroots campaign last year to defeat the recall of Gov. Gavin Newsom, delegates to today’s endorsement convention promised an unprecedented mobilization to get out the vote in June and November.

Endorsements are determined through a democratic process by which delegates to the California Labor Federation representing public and private sector unions vote to support candidates and ballot measures. Delegates voted today on endorsements for the June primary only. General election endorsements for candidates and ballot measures occur at the Federation’s Biennial Convention in July.
