California Labor Federation Announces Endorsements for June Primary

Convention kicks off massive grassroots mobilization for this year’s elections

The California Labor Federation, representing 2.1 million union workers across the state, today announced endorsements in State Assembly, Senate and congressional races, as well as ballot measures, for the June primary election at California Labor’s Pre-Primary Convention in Los Angeles.

The convention kicked off California Labor’s grassroots election campaign, which relies heavily on volunteers mobilizing to reach voters by phone, through the mail, online and in-person about the importance of the upcoming elections to all workers.

“In a time of unprecedented challenges facing working people, this year’s elections are pivotal to the direction of our state,” said California Labor Federation Executive Secretary-Treasurer Art Pulaski. “The core of our election program is the dedication and commitment of thousands of volunteers reaching millions of voters with vital information about candidates’ positions and measures impacting workers. In an era of Citizens United, labor’s grassroots program is more critical than ever to counterbalance the unlimited political spending and power of well-heeled corporate interests.”

Endorsements are determined through a democratic process by which delegates to the California Labor Federation representing both public and private sector unions vote to support candidates and ballot measures. Delegates voted today on endorsements for the June primary only. General election endorsements for candidates and ballot measures occur at the Federation’s Biennial Convention in July.
