California Labor Federation Hails Historic Appointment of Assemblymember Rob Bonta as Attorney General

Statement by California Labor Federation Executive Secretary-Treasurer Art Pulaski

“By appointing Assemblymember Rob Bonta as California’s next Attorney General, Gov. Gavin Newsom has chosen a relentlessly progressive and vigorous fighter for the fundamental rights of all working people. Bonta’s historic ascension to our state’s top law enforcement position couldn’t come at a more critical time. At a moment when the freedoms and liberties of the Asian-American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community and all people of color are under attack, Bonta will serve as a powerful defender of those most threatened by exploitation and violence.

“As our first Filipino Attorney General, Bonta brings a wealth of lived experience and a deep understanding of the critical challenges facing our state’s most vulnerable to the job. Bonta’s record on workers’ rights is strong. He’s not just been a reliable vote in support of workers; he’s been a champion on some of the most important issues of our time including raising wages, workplace health and safety and the right to form and join unions. We have no doubt he will work tirelessly as Attorney General to defend workers from exploitation and vigorously enforce labor and anti-discrimination laws. We congratulate Assemblymember Bonta and look forward to working closely with him to ensure workers across the state are respected and protected each and every day on the job.”
