Labor Announces Endorsements for California's November '08 Election
OAKLAND, CA— The California Labor Federation today announced its endorsements for California’s November 2008 general election. More than 600 union leaders representing millions of workers across the state came together to determine Labor’s endorsements for U.S. House of Representatives, California State Senate and Assembly, and statewide ballot measures.
“As the costs of gas, food, healthcare and housing continue to skyrocket, its up to us to elect leaders who understand the challenges working families are facing, and who are ready and able to make some serious and immediate changes,” said California Labor Federation Executive Secretary-Treasurer Art Pulaski. “We need legislators who will protect our jobs, fix our broken healthcare system, improve our economic situation and enhance our rights at work, especially the right to form and join unions.”
“Today’s endorsements are the first step towards electing labor-friendly lawmakers in
Sacramento and Washington, D.C. But this election is about more than the legislators; we need to fight off anti-worker ballot initiatives, and promote the ballot measures that secure California’s middle class,” Pulaski continued. “The next step, the most important step, is getting millions of worker-friendly voters out to the polls. California workers are ready for change, and we have the power to make that change happen in November.”
